How the scholarship can fund your pilot training.
Stipendium Hungaricum covers university tuition for eligible international students. When flight training is included in the funded degree, it can be covered too.
So, how can the flying be free?
- 1
Choose an eligible pilot degree
Some Professional Pilot degrees combine university study with practical flight training. Search for “pilot” in the official course finder to explore programmes and the universities offering them.
- 2
Receive the scholarship
If the programme is available to applicants from your country and you’re awarded funding, its tuition can be covered.
- 3
Study and train in Hungary
The flight training included in that degree forms part of your funded studies. Check the exact package with the university.
Why I’m sharing this.
I’m the first Japanese student to take this scholarship route towards free professional pilot training. When I started researching it, information was scattered across websites. I had to piece together what the opportunity involved and how to apply.
My followers helped me discover this opportunity. Now I want to help other aspiring pilots find their way to it.
I created this page to pass that help on. I want aspiring pilots in Japan and around the world to find the information I struggled to find, and have somewhere to turn when they need help preparing.

Questions before you apply?
Find answers about funding, eligibility and how my support works.
Is it really free pilot training?
The scholarship can cover flight training included in an eligible funded degree. You’ll still need to budget for living expenses, travel, medicals and programme-specific extras. Confirm what’s included with your university.
Am I eligible to apply?
First, find your country of citizenship in the official Sending Partners list and check the study fields and degree levels available to you. Eligibility is based on the citizenship you apply with, rather than where you live.
As of 2026/27 and for the foreseeable future, the only universities offering Professional Pilot BSc programmes through Stipendium Hungaricum are the University of Nyíregyháza (NYE) and Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME). Open the links above and check “Territory requirements” for your country of citizenship, along with the university’s entry requirements. Being listed for a programme does not by itself confirm scholarship eligibility. Use the information for your application year.
If your country or Sending Partner is missing, or the lists disagree, contact Tempus Public Foundation and/or the university’s admissions team directly to clarify your eligibility before applying.
Do I have to buy support to apply?
No. Applying directly is free. SORATOBU’s resources and mentoring are optional preparation tools. You submit your own application. Read the official advice.
Can you help with Sending Partner procedures or exams in other countries?
No. My country-specific guidance covers Japan only. I can’t advise on procedures or exams run by Sending Partners in other countries. In my experience applying from Japan, contacting the Japanese Sending Partner was not required. Please check the latest official guidance for your application year.
Can you guarantee a scholarship or admission?
No. I can help you prepare and review your materials. Sending Partners, universities and scholarship authorities make the decisions.
Which option should I choose?
Choose the Application Guide for application examples, the Motivation Letter Guide for writing guidance, or the Exam Prep Guide for assessment preparation. A separate strategy session lets you discuss your own circumstances and questions. If you’re unsure which guide fits, use the contact form.
Contact meIs SORATOBU officially affiliated with the scholarship?
No. SORATOBU has no legal or official affiliation with Stipendium Hungaricum or the Tempus Public Foundation. Its resources and support are provided independently.
