The airmen medical exam, also known as the kouku-jyujisha academic exam, is an exam that is usually necessary to take in order to fly in Japan. More information about this exam can be located in the officil JCAB website.

Identify the type of medical certificate you need
Japan offers two classes of medical certificates: first class and second class. The class you need depends on your pilot license type and intended flying activities.
Simply put, if you hold a CPL or ATPL license, you'll need a first class medical certificate. If you have a PPL license, you'll need a second class medical certificate.

Find an authorized medical institution
Only certain medical institutions can conduct aviation medical exams. You can view the complete list of authorized facilities here.

Schedule your appointment
Contact your chosen medical institution directly to schedule your aviation medical examination. It's recommended to call ahead as these specialized exams may require advance booking.

Complete the aviation medical examination certificate application
You'll need to fill out a digital application for the Aviation Medical Examination Certificate. Access the online application here. The medical institution staff will guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have.

Once completed, bring your application to the medical institution either as a printed copy or displayed on your mobile device.

Attend your medical examination
Arrive promptly for your scheduled medical examination appointment.
