STEP

01

Identify the type of medical certificate you need

Japan issues two classes of medical certificates: First Class and Second Class. The one you need depends on your license type and the kind of flying you intend to do.

In simple terms:

If you hold a CPL or ATPL, you’ll need a First Class medical certificate.

If you have a PPL, a Second Class medical certificate is sufficient.

STEP

02

Find an authorized medical institution

Only designated medical institutions are permitted to conduct aviation medical examinations in Japan. You can view the full list of authorized facilities here.
